Detroiters, Education Reformers Agree: Clark Durant for U. S. Senate

March 3, 2012

In Michigan, the Republican nomination for Senate creates quite a controversy. Pete Hoekstra, who spent eighteen years in Congress and produced this Super Bowl advertisement, is the perceived favorite.  However, a conservative activist, Clark Durant, provides competition for Hoekstra. Incumbent Senator, Debbie Stabenow (D-MI), awaits a challenger, so a fed-up public needs to determine differences between the candidates and discern which one is the true conservative fit for the job.

As a long-time advocate of educational improvement in practice, Durant co-founded Detroit’s Cornerstone Schools. The private-independent and charter system experiment has had great success, opening doors for more than 1,400 inner-city students a year. Stephen Henderson, Detroit Free Press editorial page editor, applauded the candidate for his effective work: “The charter movement, the number of independent schools cropping up around the city — it all really started with Durant and Cornerstone” (Detroit Free Press, 8/25/11).

Detroiters involved in the education reform movement – including the plethora of thankful families – are well aware of Durant and his myriad contributions to moving the Motor City forward. For the past two decades, 95% of its students have graduated, compared to a worst-in-the-nation 25% rate for Detroit Public Schools. Mayor Dave Bing had nothing but praise for the alternative academic start-up, stating that “When a child attends Cornerstone Schools they are entering a learning community that brings together children, parents, teachers and partners all working toward a single goal — the success of our children.”

Michael Moore Loves Capitalism?!

November 29, 2011

Moore is back in East Lansing to sell copies of his latest capitalist creation.

Yesterday morning, I received an email from James Madison College at Michigan State University promoting Michael Moore (yep, the same one with the $2 million Torch Lake mansion) and his upcoming appearance on campus. Although unfortunate news, the media alert was much appreciated. However, MSU Campus Conservatives will be holding a pre-planned panel discussion – entitled “What’s the Matter with Campus?” (http://on.fb.me/tQ1xWP) – at the same time.

The MSU event is part of a five-stop Michigan swing to close out Moore’s “Here Comes Trouble: Stories from My Life” book tour. This calls for an ‘I Love Capitalism’ protest, huh? A wealthy mockumentarian, whom deeply sympathizes with and supports the Occupy Wall Street crowd, deserves some pushback from collegians. We are not all mindless, government-is-the-answer zombies, after all!

Moore will be speaking at the MSU Concert Auditorium (Wharton Center) beginning at 7:30 pm this evening, Tuesday, November 29. General admission is $7.50, while students must only finance $5 toward the far-left hypocrite’s fortune. I couldn’t see myself feeding the fat man, not even one Lincoln. A free show would be more fitting of the socialist line, but consistency is not a virtue.

Michael Moore Organizes Union/Astroturf Protest in Lansing

March 16, 2011

He’s at it again! The pride of Flint, film producer and liberal Marxist Michael Moore, has called upon fellow Michiganders to take (another) day off from work to protest against sensible budget cuts in a time of crisis. Here is the open letter posted on MichaelMoore.com:

“I’m asking everyone who can to take Wednesday off and head to the State
Capitol in Lansing to protest the cruel and downright frightening legislation
currently being jammed down our throats … Governor Snyder, once elected,
yanked off his nice-guy mask to reveal that he is in fact a multi-millionaire
hell-bent on destroying our state and turning it over to his buddies from
Wall Street … Trust me, you will rue the day you sat home and did
nothing while thieves posing as politicians stole your
Great Lakes State from you.”

Self-dubbed as “Stand Up for Michigan,” the carpetbagger gathering at the Michigan State Capitol building is scheduled for noon to 5:00 pm today, Wednesday, March 16. The Michigan AFL-CIO chapter, a massive union machine, is leading the fight for the “working class” along with the hefty lefty.

Mr. Moore, @MMFlint, has kept up with the tweets regarding the organized demonstration. A few of the gems include:

If ur in AnnArbor & want 2 hop my bus 2 Lansing 4 giant protest tmr? It’s free, RSVP @ 734-904-6522 Details http://michaelmoore.com #MadMI

MSU students! My crew is inside Lansing Capitol bldg rt now w/ cameras. Occupying rotunda. Take #1 bus & join ’em! B a star on my website!

If u r watching our live stream u r a witness to the first occupation of the Michigan capitol rotunda…

These guys are nuts and clearly have refused to read Governor Snyder’s budget proposal. Even so, the time of unjust control of the people’s money has got to end – and Big Labor cannot stand it. Let’s stand with Governor Snyder!

I will swing by downtown Lansing after class – hooray for productivity! – to see what the entrenched far-left is up to. I would not mind catching a glimpse of MM partaking in what he loves: pushing forth a radical agenda, all for a profit. Stay tuned for exclusive viedo footage!
